My Journey Into Writing About Spirituality
My spiritual journey has been a rough one. I grew up Catholic, but I never really felt like I belonged or even believed in some of the things I was taught.
I had to go to Catholic school for my grade school and high school years, which made my negative feelings worse as it felt as if it was forced upon me to believe what they wanted. I almost failed one year because of my Theology class on ‘Morality’ which was pretty much them saying ‘This is the only right thing. If you don’t follow, you will go to Hell.’
I never really believed that you should be forced to believe something, which I thought made me an anomaly. But now that I’m older I’ve looked into many different belief paths and spoke to many different people of different religions, or belief mindsets.
This is when I realized that I’m not alone. There are a small number of people in the world called ‘omnists.’ (At least I think it is a small amount).
The Oxford dictionary says that an omnist believes in a single purpose or cause uniting all things or people.
My interpretation is similar, but very different. I expand the definition by saying that I believe that no religion or belief is right or wrong as long as it does not harm others physically, mentally, or spiritually.
I elaborate on this belief in the lore of the Inolla Chronicles.
In the world of Moranko, every written idea or widely practiced belief the Mortarai (humans) create creates a multiverse of worlds and characters. The Moratarai are the creators rather than a divine being.
This process expands to belief and religious practices. Every belief or religion is created and made real by the believers. This is my way of using my personal Omnist belief and placing it within the lore of my fantasy series.
